Fort Bend Herald, January 9, 2012: Funeral services for A.J. "Poppie" Stephens, 74, of Rosenberg, will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at New Covenant Church in Rosenberg, with interment following at Greenlawn Memorial Park. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at New Covenant Church in Rosenberg. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at New Covenant Church located at 1412 Brazos Street in Rosenberg. A.J. was born on April 18, 1937, and he passed away on Jan. 6, 2012 surrounded by his loving family members after fighting a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was a loving and caring soul and dearly loved by all of his family members. A.J. worked many years with Pipefitters Local 211. He loved to barbeque and spend time outdoors. A.J., along with his wife, Agnes, were also very active in the Creative Arts Dept. of the fair. A.J. is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Fannie Stephens; his daughter, Beverly Stephens Austin; and first wife, Virginia Stephens. A.J. is survived by his loving wife, Agnes Stephens, until we meet again; children, Greg Stephens and wife, Wendy, Barbara Boettcher and husband, David, and Lysa Vaughn; grandchildren, Brandon Boettcher, Kelly Boettcher, Cheyenne Stephens, Kristin Stephens, and Joshua Stephens; great-grandson, Derek Mears; brothers, Dub Stephens, Joe Stephens and wife, Alice, Casey Stephens and wife, Jimmy Lee, John Stephens and wife, Vita; sisters, Maggie Meeks and husband, J.B., Myrna Slansky and husband, T.J., Caroline Cranshaw, and Nancy Bolen. Pallbearers are David Boettcher, Brandon Boettcher, Ted Slansky, Steven Slansky, Jim Stephens, and Guy Crenshaw. Honorary pallbearers are Hunter Smith and Joshua Stephens.
