Johnny "Vernon" Jackson Marshall News Messenger Tuesday, August 13, 2013 MARSHALL — Johnny "Vernon" Jackson, 78, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2013, in Harleton, Texas. He was born May 4, 1935, in Harrison County, Texas, to John Henry and Hattie Smith Jackson. Vernon joined Church of God of Prophecy in February 1966 and became an ordained deacon August 16, 1968. He retired from Panola Harrison Electric Co. Vernon enjoyed antique shopping with his wife, his great-grandkids' sporting events, fishing and hunting with his kids and special Sunday family dinners with all the family. Vernon is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ada E. Jackson; granddaughter and husband, Sonya and Jerry Prewitt; great-grandchildren, Casey Oney, Austyn Oney and Hanah Prewitt; special grandkids, Brandon Hughes, Kirstee Wallace, Harber Pope, Liberty Wilson, Jessica Echols and Sawyer Eberhart; sisters, Janie Cummings, Mozell Sharp, Emma Sykes and James, Dena Clark; brother-in-law, Everett Oney; sisters-in-law, Lena Fleet and James, and Juanice Wallace and Roy Knoble; special nephews and nieces, Jack Monroe, Henry Jackson, Frank Jackson, Wanda Cameron, France Moore, Joe Craver, Paul Smith, Jordan Smith, Roy Knoble Jr., Dale Pope, Kenneth Oney, Patricia Arden and Ramona Brown; special family, Ken and Betty Hughes, Ken and Judi Babor, Pete and Lou Smith and Andrea Vines; special friends, Opal Collins, Bill and Melba Cook, Brenda Grisham, Marsha Nolen and Robbey Rogers; and many other family members and friends who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his twin sons, Tony Jackson and Tommy Jackson; mother, Hattie Jackson; brother, Andrew Jackson; sisters, Gracie Oney and Eulane Monroe; special nieces and nephews, Julie Wallace, Sherry Dolley, Jimmy Jackson and Tina Smith; and brother-in-law, D.A. Cummings. Graveside services for Vernon will be 10 a.m. today, August 13, 2013, at Piney Cemetery in Harleton, Texas, with the Rev. Mike Brittain, the Rev. Craig Evers and Henry Jackson officiating. Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Monday, August 12, 2013, at Sullivan Funeral Home in Marshall, Texas. Pallbearers will be Vernon Oney Jr., Sawyer Eberhart, Ned Dent, Joe Jones, Billy Ridgeway and Roger Perkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Alton Warner, James Sykes, Duane Nolen, Freddy Grisham, Al Dolley and Don Oney Jr. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Piney Cemetery or Church of God of Prophecy. Special thanks to Dr. Sharma, Anita, Betty and staff at Longview Oncology, Dr. Y.M. Phan and nurse, Nova Jackson.
