Obituary courtesy of Metz Mortuary in York, NE. Charles D. Chollar, age 74, of York, NE, died Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Grand Island, NE. He was born June 23, 1939 in Columbus, NE. Following high school graduation, Charles served in the U.S. Army. He drove a truck for his living, and spent as much time as possible outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and boating. He was a fishing guide for several years at Harlan County Dam and in Arkansas. He loved horses and German Short Hair bird dogs. Charles was a man of many skills and could and would do just about anything for anyone. He was an avid Husker football fan and above all enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his son, Charles (Kimberley) Chollar of Dannebrog, NE, and daughter, Karri (Michael) May of York,and son Craig (Jolene) Nelson of Central City, NE; grandchildren, Mandy (Matt) Weber of Grand Island, Justin (Lora) Bingham Splain of Tampa, FL, Mason Shaw of Benedict, NE, Jeremy May, David Lee May, and Taylor May of York; one great-granddaughter, Abigail May of York. Also surviving are siblings, Richard Chollar from California, Betty Wangler and Delores James of Aurora, NE; sister-in-law Mary Chollar of Columbus, NE; nieces; nephews; and many friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Jim, and sister Laura. Charles has been cremated and memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 8, 2013 at the Metz Chapel in York, NE. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
