Bio

Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent, Tuesday, February 17, 1931. --Word has been received by relatives here of the death of Mrs. Herman Schmale, resident of Grand Island from 1885 to 1905, and at the time of her death residing at Luseland, Sask., Canada. Death came at her home at Luseland, Feb. 11. She was sixty-eight years and nine months of age. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon of last week, at 2 o'clock from the German Lutheran church at Luseland and interment was made in the cemetery there. Mrs. Schmale was born at Haver, Westphalen, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Osterhold. She was married June 12, 1885, at Grand Island, Neb., to Herman Schmale, where they lived until 1909 at which time they moved from Grand Island to Luseland, Sask., where she resided until her death. Surviving her are her husband, four sons: William (? Wm Duennermann born of a previous marriage); Herman, Richard and Arthur; three daughters, Mrs. Charles Knefelkamp, Mrs. Herman Knefelkamp, of Stillwater, Minn., and Mrs. Ernest Reher, of Grand Island; two brothers, Henry and William Osterhold, of Luseland, Sask.; one sister, Mrs. Detlef Lilienthat, of Burwell, Neb., and twenty-eight grandchildren.
