Marysville Advocate; 9-16-2004 Leona Houtz-Kieffer, 89, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at Cambridge Place, Marysville. A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. A Mass was at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at St. Gregory's, with the Rev. Gary Pennings officiating. Organist was Bob Welch, and music included "Here I Am, Lord," "Amazing Grace," "On Eagle's Wings" and "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers were Gary Cope, Galen Cope, Dave Schultz, Mike Lee, Daniel Lee and Donny Cope. Burial was in St. Gregory's Cemetery. Leona Houtz-Kieffer was born May 18, 1915, in Beattie, the daughter of John A. and Marcella M. Cook Koch. She graduated from Salina High School in 1934. On Sept. 19, 1936, she married Herbert E. Houtz. He died April 4, 1984. On Aug. 28, 1993, she married Larry Kieffer. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Gregory's Church, the altar society, R.S.V.P., Daughters of Isabella, American Legion Auxiliary and Women of the Moose. Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Galen, in 1941; a daughter, Sharon Pavlacha, in 1994; three sisters, Marie, Blance and Nell; and four brothers, Leo John Koch, George Koch, Paul Koch and Cecil Koch. Survivors include her husband, Larry Kieffer, Marysville; two daughters, Shirley Leem, Stafford, Texas, and Lynn Houtz, Marysville; two sons, Gene Houtz, Marysville, and Brad Houtz, Manhattan; 10 grandchildren; seven grandchildren; 10 stepchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.
