Published in the Ord Quiz, Ord, Nebraska, Thursday, February 19, 1998 Page 8a, Col. Joseph J. Bonne, 90, of rural Ord died Feb 12, 1998 at the Valley County Hospital in Ord. Mr. Bonne was born April 16, 1907, west of David City in Butler County, Neb., to Emiel and Emilie (Pieters) Bonne. He attended the Marietta Parochial School near David City. He moved with his family to Valley County in 1919 and graduated from country school in Valley County. He married Ellen Emily Smolik on June 3, 1935 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in the Geranium Township of Valley County. They lived on rented farms until they moved to a farm southwest of Ord. Farming was his occupation and his hobby. Mrs. Bonne died on Oct. 9, 1992. Mr. Bonne entered the Valley County Nursing Home in June of 1996. He was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Funeral services were held Feb. 14, at 10:30 at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Burial was in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Richard Bonne of Ord; two daughters, Mary Ellen Setlik of Ord and Geraldine Thompson of Plano, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Alfons Bonne of Ord; two sisters, Mary Mettenbrink of Grand Island and Margaret Potrzeba of Hastings.
