KEARNEY - Frank Cernik, 92, of Kearney, formerly of Ord, died Monday, May 2, 2011, at St. Luke's Good Samaritan Village in Kearney. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ord Memorial Chapel, with the Revs. Jeff Wulf and Keith Robinson (Frank's grandson) officiating. Burial will be in the Ord Bohemian Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Ord VFW Post 7029 and American Legion Post 38. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by a son, Frank Cernik, Jr. and an infant daughter. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Agnes Elizabeth of Kearney; two daughters and a son-in-law, Betty Jane Robinson of Kearney and Charlene Kay and Alan Hruby of Hansen; a daughter-in-law, RaNae Cernik of Kearney; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a sister, Edith John of Lincoln. Additional survivors include nieces, nephews, cousins and a community of caring friends. Mr. Cernik was born Nov. 12, 1918, to Joseph and Phyllis (Lukesh) Cernik on the family farm in Geranium Township of Valley County. Frank entered the US Army, served during World War II in Normandy and Germany and was honorably discharged. On Oct. 2, 1946, Frank and Agnes Elizabeth Bruha were united in marriage and began their home and family on a farm southwest of North Loup. He also studied electronics and enjoyed installing the first black/white televisions in many Valley County homes. At the time of retirement, the couple moved to Ord. There Frank continued his carpentry. He was a member of the Ord VFW and the North Loup American Legion. He was always an avid fisherman with family and friends. He enjoyed polka music and dancing. Frank and Agnes then moved to Kearney to live closer to their daughters and on Oct. 2, 2010, celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Eldon Cernik. The Grand Island Independent on-line - May 5 2011
