Edward Novak, 95, of rural Ord died Thursday, May 6, 2010, at his home northeast of Ord. Edward was born April 16, 1915, in a sod house six miles east of Comstock to Frank Sr. and Julia (Pokorny) Novak. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Alice, and a son, Myron E. Novak, both of rural Ord. Edward attended the Round Park (Stone School) and Geranium District 35 School. When he was 17, his father passed away so Edward and his mother worked on the family farm. On Oct. 25, 1938, Edward was united in marriage to Alice J. Nevrivy at Ord. To this union a son, Myron E. Novak, was born. In December 1949, the family moved from the farm west of Ord to a farm 12 miles northeast of Ord in the sand flat area of Valley County. This would be Edward's home until his passing. Edward loved his family and farming. He raised fine hogs and good Hereford cattle. He enjoyed listening to music on the radio, going to Bohemian polka dances and playing a good game of pocket billiards. He was a member of the Lodge Slavin 112 of National Hall. He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, Mary Pesek, Agnus Woods, Emma Workman, Rosie Leska and Lillian Knapp.
