Bio

Daniel Matus, age 81, of West, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 in Temple, Texas at VA Medical Center. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at Aderhold Funeral Home in West by Janice Kaluza. Visitation will follow until 8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 04, 2013 at St. Mary's Cemetery, with Rev. Ed Karasek officiating. Dan was born on August 23, 1931 in Abbott, Texas to Rudolph Matus, Sr. and Emilie (Krenek) Matus. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He became a maintenance worker for Burlington Mills, Westex Welding & Fire Apparatus, Jupe Mills, and was with Plasek Mills for 23 years before retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, American Legion and VFW Post 829 West. Dan loved listening to Czech music and Country & Western music. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; step-daughter, Sherry Morton; brother, Rudolph Joseph Matus Jr. and brother-in-law, George A. Soukup . Survivors include four sons, Dan Webb of Arlington, Texas, Wesley Matus and wife, Debbie of Waco, Greg Matus of West; step-son, Troy Stanley and wife, Merica of Pottsboro, Texas; daughter, Sandra Webb of Arlington; brothers, Raymond Matus and wife, Lil of West and Herman Matus and wife Jo Ann of West; sister, Eileen Soukup of West; sister-in-law, Helen Matus of West; and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Volunteer Fire Department or West Volunteer Ambulance Association. Note: His nephew Jimmy Ray Matus lost his life in the West, Texas explosion 17 Apr 2013.
