Services for William Wayne Whitson, 79, of Lubbock will be on Tuesday April 23, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Guajardo Funeral Chapels 407 N. University Ave. with Pastor Dale Maness officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Guajardo Funeral Chapels. Family will receive friends today, April 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the chapel. Mr. Whitson passed into the waiting arms of his Savior on April 20, 2013. He was born Nov. 22, 1933 in Lutie, Texas. Mr. Whitson attended Abilene Christian before enrolling at Texas Tech University in 1951. He proudly served his country after enlisting in the United States Army. He served from 1956 to 1958. Mr. Whitson owned and operated Texel Steel, Snidley Whiplash Pawn and Whitson Music Co. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and past president of the Texas Pawn Brokers Association. Survivors include his companion of 14 years, Elida Vergara; stepchildren, Eliseo Vergara, Veronica Jo Chavez, April Lawson and Lucio Castillo, Jr. all of Lubbock; his son, William Wayne Whitson II; daughter, Judy Whitson Pool-Homan of Ft. Worth, his ex wife Carol Perkins Whitson; his sisters, Carolyn Baldwin of Brackettville, Doris Billingsley of Plainview, Laura Whitson of Cuero; and his brother, Tom Whitson of Amarillo. He also leaves three grandchildren to cherish his memory. The Whitson family wishes to express a heartfelt Thank You to the staff of Odyssey Hospice.
