Herald Coaster, October 12, 1966: Funeral services for Vanie Louis Mikel, 47, of Guy were held at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Needville. Rev. Ed. H. Weltge officiated. Mr. Mikel passed away Saturday morning while on a hunting trip. He was employed with the Jefferson Lake Sulphur Company, and was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3903 of Rosenberg. Among the survivors are his wife, Mrs. Esther Mikel of Guy; one son, Ray Allan Mikel of Guy; four sisters, Mrs. Annie Jakubec of Damon, Mrs Marie Noles of Pasadena, Mrs. Joe Jakubec of Damon and Mrs. Della Dodds of Freeport; six brothers, Frank Mikel of Damon, Joe Mikel of Brazoria, Ernest Mikel of Damon, Sgt. Bennie Mikel of Fairbanks, Alaska, Johnnie Mikel of Guy and Ike Mikel of Damon; several aunts and uncles; and other relatives. Pallbearers were A.W. Dannhaus, Raymond Strypka, Frank Valka, Freeman Zwahr, Adolph Barina and Otto Susan. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Funeral services were under the direction of Garmany and Co. Funeral Directors.
