Bio

Mary Moore Griess, the daughter of Amos and Joanna (Seybold) Moore, was born on at Aurora, Nebraska on July 19, 1915 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on April 11, 2005, at the age of 89. She grew up in Aurora, graduated from Aurora High School and went on to attend Kearney Teachers College. On August 10, 1947, Mary was united in marriage to Walter Griess at Aurora. Mary was a country schoolteacher and served as a librarian at the Aurora Library. Later on she was a bus driver for the Aurora Public Schools. In 1980, they moved to Hastings and resided at Good Samaritan Village returning to Aurora in 1988. Walter passed away on April 1, 1990. Mary was baptized into the United Brethren Church at age 7. She was a member for over 80 years to the United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Mary Anna church circle. She was also a member of the General Federated Women's Club, where she was a district officer. Mary was named a lifetime honorary member of Aurora's Friends of the Library. Mary and Doris Lord were co-chairpersons of the Hamilton County Centennial. Walter and Mary enjoyed travelling around the country sightseeing. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and five brothers, Wayne, Lyndle, Winfred, Ralph and Virgil. Mary is survived by her sister, Dorothy Blevins of North Aurora, Illinois; sister-in-law, Betty Moore of Samamish, Washington and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
