Bio

Martha L. Dubcak, 92, of Temple, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, in a local assisted living center. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 23, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Labaj officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Martha was born in Wiggins (was called Tokio prior to World War II), Texas, to the late Roman and Hermina Lichnovsky. Her childhood was spent in West, Texas, where her father owned the grocery store. In 1936, they moved to Temple, where he started the 7UP Distributorship. On April 25, 1941, she married Walter Paysse. Martha and Walter owned several businesses in Temple, and in 1952, they started Cyclone Fence of Temple, which later became Cen-Tex Fence Company. She was an active member of the Temple Brethren Church, where she served as a faithful member of the Christian Sisters. Martha was a devoted participant in the annual Quilt Show and served on the flowers committee for many years. She loved the camaraderie of her bowling league friends and was active in the SPJST Lodge #47. Martha found great joy in listening and dancing to the music of her Czech heritage; a lively polka a reflection of her enthusiasm and zest for life. Other interests included traveling, slots, quilting, playing dominoes with friends, baking kolaches, and pickling. She enjoyed taking her grandchildren and great-grandchildren out to the lake cabin, throwing rocks in Bird Creek, and playing pool in the game room. Martha was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Paysse in 1974; second husband, Joe Dubcak; sister, Regina Zabcik; brother, George Lichnovsky; and grandson, Brad Allan Killebrew in 2007. Survivors include her son, John Paysse and his wife, Shirley, of Temple; daughter, Dianne Paysse Tyrock and her husband, Melvin, of Humble; grandchildren, Kenny Paysse and his wife, Becky, of Temple, Dan Killebrew and his wife, Amy, of Huffman, Sandy Deyoe and her husband, Rodney, of Austin, Jason Tyrock and his wife, Regina, of Houston, and Brandon Tyrock and his wife, Leigh Ann, of Houston; great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Andrew and William Paysse, Kristi and Matthew Deyoe, and Hannah Killebrew.
