Bio

Died in automobile accident in McKinney, Collin County, Texas. Wanda Beatrice Deal, 18 years old, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Deal of Forest Grove, and a senior student in the McKinney High school, was instantly killed in a tragic accident which occurred between 3:30 and 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon on the McKinney-Dallas highway, about two miles south of McKinney. The tragedy occurred between Wilson Creek bridge and Fairview dairy, when the touring car in which Miss Deal was riding home alone from school and a sedan in which Berry Ford and Waiter Jeanes were riding, collided. From the best information obtainable, the car in which the two young men were riding, while attempting to pass another car – both of which were going north struck the car of Miss Deal, who was going south on her way home. She resided in the Forest Grove community. The collision threw Miss Deal out of the car and into the ditch killing her instantly and badly damaging both cars. The young men were unhurt. The girl was taken to the Sara J. Massie & Son Funeral home, where the body was prepared for burial. Wednesday night the body was conveyed to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Deal, in the Forest Grove community, where it remained until funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Forest. Grove Church conducted by Rev. Ab Snider, with interment following in the Forest Grove (Fitzhugh) cemetery. Classmates were pallbearers. Active pallbearers - Kermit Pruett, Jim Cantrell, A. G. Chandler, John W. Forsyth, Talmadge Eddins, Leland Scribner, Walter Neil, Billie Chambers and Durwood Lucy. Honorary pallbearers – Naomi Jackson, Elsie Kerby, Thelma Dennis, Helen Johnson, Anita Gross, Elizabeth Douglass, Marie Smith, Mabel Smith, Roby Copus and Leta Vermillion. All members of her class attended the funeral in at body. The deceased was born in McKinney December 12, 1911. When only 6 years of age, the family moved to the Forest Grove Community, where they have since resided. This was her second year in the McKinney High School, where she was a low senior, and would have graduated next December. She was a devoted member of the Christian Church at Allen, where she had been a member for eight years. The deceased was a member of two pioneer families. Her father R. E. Deal, although he was born out of this state, came with his parents to this county when only few weeks old and had since lived in Collin. Her paternal grandfather, J. N. Deal, is buried in the Fitzhugh Cemetery, her grandmother making her home at Lucas with a daughter, Mrs. J. E. Stratton. Her maternal grandparents, G. A. Fitzhugh and wife, are also buried in that cemetery. Her mother was Miss Minnie Fitzhugh before marriage. Surviving the deceased are her grief-stricken parents, two brothers and a sister, as follows: Fitzhugh Deal, at home; N. E. Deal of Dallas and Mrs. Marie Killian of Dallas.
