Herald Coaster, December 9, 2002: Funeral services for Elgene Matheaus, 65, of Beasley will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11 from Knesek and Sons Funeral Home in Wallis. Mr. Jerry Eagleson will officiate the services. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Greenlawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Vrana, Bennie Matheaus, Gerald Matheaus, Ben Matheaus, Marvin Hartman, Tommy Beauchamp, Dale Lindemann and Butch Sbrusch. Honorary pallbearers will be Hayden Borski, Hannah Borski, Sammy Vrana and Brett Vrana. Elgene Matheaus died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002 in Richmond. He was born to parents Theodore Matheaus and Sylvia Chudej Matheaus in Beasley. He was raised in Beasley where he attended school and he also attended Lamar Consolidated. On Oct. 27, 1957, he married Jo Ann Wheeler in Rosenberg. Living in Beasley, he was active in the Beasley Volunteer Fire Department and city council. Elgene was self employed most of his life with a backhoe service, and he found happiness in hunting, working on his numerous lawnmowers and being with his grandchildren. Elgene is survived by his wife, JoAnn Matheaus; his mother, Sylvia Matheaus; his daughters, Robin Vrana and her husband, Rudy, all of Beasley, Allyson Pluskota and her husband, Dennis, of Richmond; brothers, Bengene Matheaus and his wife, Linda, of Rosenberg and Gerald Matheaus and his wife, Judy, of Rosenberg; his grandchildren, Chad Vrana, Brett Vrana, Samantha Vrana, Hannah Borski and Hayden Borski. He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Matheaus and his son, Alan Matheaus. For those wishing, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or to Life Gift, 5614 Kirby Dr., Suite 900, Houston, Texas, 77005. Visitation for Mr. Matheaus will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10 at Knesek and Sons Funeral Home, 122 North FM 1093 in Wallis.
