Bio

John was born to Joseph and Rhoda Frances (Ferguson) Thogmartin. He married Nancy Petree on August 12, 1840 in Ray County, Missouri, daughter of Samuel and Sarah (Campbell) Petree. They were parents of eleven children: Robert, Mary, Rachel, Rhoda, Sarah, Emily, Martha, Davis, Oliver, John, and Eli. They made their home in Madison Township, Mercer County, Missouri, where they were farmers. During the Civil War, John served as 1st Lieut., 4th Prov. Reg't MO Militia and Co. A, 44th Reg't MO Militia. (lt)
