Bio

Cloyd LaVell Christiansen, 85, passed away February 21, 2013 at his home in Pleasant Grove surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 6, 1927 in Pleasant Grove, Utah to Owen and Priscilla Christiansen. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Brown, on January 15, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. Dad attended Pleasant Grove High School lettering in five sports and was a member of the band and glee club. After graduating, he served honorable in the US Navy Pacific Theater for eighteen months. He worked for 40 years at U.S. Steel's Geneva Works, retiring in 1986. Dad was an active member of the Christ of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many callings including as bishop for over eight years. He had a great love for the youth, serving in many leadership capacities with them. For his lifetime leadership in the Boy Scouts of America, he was honored with the Silver Beaver Award. Dad loved the outdoors enjoying river running, horseback riding, skiing, and all kinds of sports. He was a member of the BYU Cougar Club and traveled extensively supporting the football teams. As a hobby, he loved woodworking and created many beautiful pieces of furniture for his family. He loved working in his garden and caring for his fruit trees which provided his family with a lot of fruit and vegetables. His greatest joy was his family. They enjoyed numerous barbeques, family parties, and Sunday evening gatherings. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth; his children, Linda (Mark) Strong, Pleasant Grove, David (Vicki) Christiansen, West Jordon, Ruth Ann (Doug) Hansen, Pleasant Grove, Paul (Stacey) Christiansen, Orem, Jean (Mitchell) Albrecht, Alpine; foster son Kent (Eleanor) Dukepoo, Orem; 27grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brothers, Charles Christiansen, Ogden, Lyle Christiansen, Pleasant Grove; sister, Bernice Rasmussen, Lehi. He was preceded in death by his son (Grieg), his parents; and 4 siblings. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, February 26, 2013, 11:00 a.m. in the Grove Creek LDS Ward, 475 North 700 East, Pleasant Grove. Family and friends may call at a visitation held Monday evening at the church from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. or Tuesday morning from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be at the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery with military rights.
