Bio

Willie Aaron Crabtree, age 83, of Dallas, passed away from Alzheimer's Disease on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 in Waxahachie, TX. He was born April 15, 1929 in Pampa, TX to Jerry and Pearl Crabtree. He grew up in the East Texas oil-boom and graduated in 1946 from Gladewater High School. Willie enlisted in the Army Air Corps in June 1946 at age 17, where he served as a radio operator and mechanic during the Berlin Air Lift. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1953 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and was in the Corps of Cadets. His career began at Bell Labs in New Jersey where he met his future wife, June Benz. They were married in July 1955 in Union, New Jersey. In 1957 they moved to Dallas where he began working for Texas Instruments. Willie also received his Master's Degree from SMU while with TI. He faithfully attended Grace Bible Church where he sang in the choir. Willie was an avid golfer, photographer, and shortwave ham radio operator. He also loved to travel and enjoyed oil painting. Willie was one of those friendly 'people persons' who never met a stranger. Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, June Crabtree of Dallas; one daughter, Carol Crabtree of Farmers Branch; one son, Doug Crabtree and his wife Peggy of Waxahachie; brothers, Dr. Jerry Crabtree and wife Lanelle of Victoria, TX, Lloyd Crabtree and wife Evelyn and Tom Crabtree all of Big Sandy, TX; brother-in-law, D. W. Lindley; step-brother, Clifford Plant; step-sister, Neta McKinney, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vernon and Doyle Crabtree and one sister, Geraldine Lindley. Inurnment will be at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 3:15 P.M. Prior to inurnment, a gathering at 12 Noon for family will be held at the funeral home in Waxahachie. A memorial service will also be held on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 3:15 P.M. at the Grace Bible Church, 11306 Inwood Rd., Dallas, TX. www.bozemitchellmckibbin.com.
