Son of Andrew and Eleanor (Woodfin) Rogers, whose grave sites have not been located/confirmed. Served as a private in Company A, 1 Regiment Engineer Troops, CSA. Died of dysentery in the Confederate State Hospital, Petersburg, Virginia. His grave, #798, is not marked; Findagrave member Julia M. spoke to cemetery staff to confirm Silas Rogers was buried in a mass grave; the marker in the photo is represents North Carolina in the area of the mass grave. Civil War Service Record and family bible reflect date of death as February 23, 1865; cemetery record reflects date of burial, February 24, 1865. Family and census records indicate place of birth as Buncombe County, NC; cemetery records reflect place of birth as Liberty, North Carolina.
