Bio

Salt Lake Tribune, The ( UT ) - October 16, 2002 Deceased Name: Joseph Neilson PAGE, AZ - Joseph Keith Neilson returned to our Heavenly Father on Oct. 14, 2002 in Page, Az. Our beloved husband, father and Patriarch, affectionately known as "Buzz", began his earthly journey on December 10, 1920 when he was born to Joseph Clyde Neilson and Christine Petersen in Holladay, Utah. He was owner of Neilson -Scott Company, Neilson Constructors and Neilson Powell Constructors. He completed many commercial and government construction projects in Utah and Page, Arizona extending back 50 years. He helped build up the Lake Powell and Page, Arizona area starting when it was a small dusty town in the 1950's. He and his sweetheart wife Jan spent the last 20 years in Page. He always found time to help Jan in her arts, crafts and ceramics shop in Page. His life's work was building. He built up not only the things of this world, but he also had a heartfelt desire in building up the lives of all those who knew and loved him. His life's service was marvelous. He served as an honorable member of the Army Air Corp in World War II. He served in many callings as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was ordained and set apart as Bishop of the Holladay 18th Ward in 1966, as Patriarch of the Holladay South Stake in 1973. He became an active Patriarch in the Page Arizona Stake in 1983, and also served as Bishop of the Page 3rd Ward from 1986-1988. He was serving as active Patriarch until May of 2002 when his illness prompted his release. His hands blessed the lives of many. He considered his illness one last opportunity for growth and a very personal challenge. He faced it with courage and faith, willing to bear the burden of it and sharing new insights with all around him. His family has learned much from it. He considered his eternal family his greatest accomplishment in life. His eternal companion Janice Louzella Scott, married Dec. 31, 1940, survives him. It was his privilege to be married to the love of his youth for 62 years. Survivors include six children Charlene Wheeler, Ronald Keith Neilson , Terry Kent (Debra) Neilson , Joseph Clyde Neilson , Violet Christine (Val) Olsen, and Scott McCloy (Michelle) Neilson ; 26 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
