Bio

Husband of Fannie Wilkerson (1864-1943); father of Pearl (1884-1958), Naoma (1885-1968), Willa (1887-1966), Fannie (1896-1969) From the Hamburg (Iowa) Reporter, March 14, 1935: "W. F. Yates, native born and lifetime resident of Fremont county, passed away quietly at his home Monday [sic] morning. While his condition had been such that no hope was held for his recovery, yet the news came as a shock to the entire county and "Bill" had friends in every corner of the county. In his more than 73 years residence in the county, he had built up a reputation for fair and honest dealings with his fellow men, and while he was pronounced in his views at times, yet he never permitted such differences to derange his friendships and always respected the other man's views. During the years he held many posts of honor in his township, and two years ago was elected as a member of the board of supervisors. On January first it was necesssary for him to resign from this post on account of ill health. A true and trusted friend has passed on, one who always had the best interests of all at heart. William Fremont Yates, son of Hiram and Sarah Taylor Yates, was born near Sidney, Iowa, February 24, 1862, and passed away quietly at his home northwest of Hamburg, Iowa, March 12, 1935, at the age of 73 years, 16 days, following a long illness. He was united in marriage to Fannie Wilkerson near Hamburg, Iowa, on January 8, 1884, and to this union four daughters were born, all of whom survive him. They are: Mrs. George H. Fiene, of Iionia [sic], Iowa; Mrs. Sever Todalen, of Hamburg, Iowa; Mrs. Chalmers Dancy, of Pushlinch [sic], Ontario, Canada; and Mrs. Fred A. Kline [sic], of Hamburg, Iowa. Besides his daughters, he is survived by his widow, ten grandchildren, one brother, Grant Yates, of Omaha, and other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock at the M. E. church, conducted by the Rev. F. O. Barnes, and interment will be in the Hamburg cemetery."
