Edward Pickhinke, age 85 of Sac City, Iowa passed away on Monday, January 16, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA. Ed, the oldest of seven children, was born on August 8, 1926 in the family home near Howells, NE, to Frank and Otilda (Dostal) Pickhinke. He attended Catholic school in Howells. January of 1940 the family moved to Early, IA where he attended Sacred Heart School. He served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Japan. On September 7, 1948, Ed was united in marriage to Vivalee Pittman at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wall Lake. This union was blessed with four children: Eveleen, Marlene, Wayne and Charlene. They made their home south of Early where Ed farmed. Ed and Vivalee moved to Sac City in 1989 and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He enjoyed any shop project, but especially woodworking and took pride in detail. He loved being on the farm, keeping his yard neat, and time with his grandchildren. Ed is survived by his wife, Vivalee; his children: Eveleen (Steve) Sievers, Sioux City; Marlene (Barry) Bittner, Storm Lake; Wayne (Karen) Pickhinke, Early and Charlene Pickhinke of Bryan, TX; grandchildren: Jeffrey (Kaye) Bittner, New Sharon, IA, Michael (Alicia) Bittner, Omaha, NE, Kevin (Katie) Sievers, Sioux City, IA, Rachel Pickhinke, Lakewood, CO, Camille Pickhinke, Atchison, KS and Weston Pickhinke, Des Moines, IA; and step great-grandchildren Chloe and Chance of New Sharon, IA. Other survivors include his sister Alice Pudenz of Odebolt; brothers: Leonard (Bernadine) Pickhinke of Nemaha, David (Jean) Pickhinke of Storm Lake, Donald (Marilyn) Pickhinke of Schaller, Ervin (Shirley) Pickhinke of Sioux City and Eugene (Eileen) Pickhinke of Early; brother-in-law Virtus Pittman of Wall Lake; many nieces and nephews; extended family members and friends. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law Betty Pittman and Valaria Meister; brothers-in-law Virgil Pittman, Verial Pittman, Verlin Pittman and Don Pudenz.
