He was the son of Henderson Ambrose "Hence" and Mary Lee (Austell) Shelton and married Mamie Lois Jennings - 02 Jul 1912 - Lincoln Co., Tennessee. His obituary follows: Horace Alton Shelton of Chattanooga, formerly of Fayetteville, died Sunday in Chattanooga following a long illness. He was 91. Services were Tuesday afternoon at Riverview Funeral Home in Fayetteville with the Rev. Virgil Harmon officiating. Burial was in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Shelton was a native of Lincoln County and the son of the late Hentz A. and Mary Austell Shelton. His wife, Mrs. Mamie L. Jennings Shelton, died in 1978. Mr. Shelton was a retired farmer and a member of the Church of God. He is survived by two sons, Earl Shelton and Raymond Shelton, both of Chattanooga; three daughters, Mrs. Velma Rogers of Chattanooga, Mrs. Bondell Roney of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, and Mrs. Eva Pruett of Ringgold, Georgia; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Couch of Tullahoma, and Mrs. Rilla Tucker of Decherd; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Velma Rogers of Chattanooga, Mrs. Bondell Honey of Michigan, and Mrs. Eva Pruett of Georgia; two sons, Earl Shelton and Raymond Shelton, both of Chattanooga; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Couch and Mrs. Rilla Tucker, both of Tennessee; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
