Glasco Sun, May 10, 1951, page 1: Charles W. Fletcher Died May 4 At St. Joseph Hospital Charles Fletcher died at St. Joseph hospital in Concordia, Kansas, May 4th, 1951. He was born in Livingston County, near Fairbury, Illinois, March 30th, 1869. He came to Cloud county with his father and mother, James and Josephine Fletcher, when he was four years old, making the trip by covered wagon. He grew up on his father's homestead, seven miles northeast of Glasco, and on August 31st, 1892, married Elizabeth Steele, who was raised on a nearby farm. They settled on a farm in the vicinity, and lived in the Prairie Point neighborhood for 43 years until he retired to his home in Glasco, in 1945. His two sons, Claude C. Fletcher, of Cincinnati, and Merton M. Fletcher, of Fort Collins, Colorado, were born there. He is survived by his widow, his two sons, four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, and by two brothers, Lloyd Fletcher of Glasco, Kansas, and Byron Fletcher of Orange, California; and by one sister, Eva Dalrymple, of Ardmore, Oklahoma. It can be said of him that he ably assumed a pioneer's responsibilities. He raised and educated his family through his own efforts. He dealt honestly with everyone, and worked and lived in the best tradition of the American farmer. The funeral service was held at the McDonald Funeral Home, on Monday afternoon, May 7, 1951, at 2:30 o'clock, with Rev. Hjalmar Larson conducting the service. Rev. Larson selected for his message the beautiful text found in Psalms 36:9: "For with Thee is the fountain of life: in Thy light shall we see light." With Mrs. Fred Harper as accompanist, Messrs. Lester Pilcher, Leon Amberg, J.H. Cleaver, and W.E. Miller sang two comforting hymns" "The Sunset Hour," and "That Beautiful Land." The pallbearers were Messrs. W.C. Bowersox, William Harper, G.L. Chapin, I.O. Carlile, Emil Liedtke and William Berndt. Interment was at the Glasco cemetery.
