Note: Some details surrounding the death have been omitted in this transcription due to length of news item. ----------------------- Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent Tuesday, 20 April 1915, page 1 ENRAGED BULL KILLS FARMER Franz Henry Wieck, a prominent farmer residing seven miles northwest of the city, was attacked by an enraged bull yesterday and died fifteen hours later as a result of the injuries received. Mr. Wieck, accompanied by Herman Schipman and other neighbors, was driving some cattle from a neighboring farm to the Wieck place yesterday morning. Suddenly a bull which formed part of the herd, turned upon Mr. Wieck. . . He was hurled about in a violet manner. The animal did not thereafter continue its attacks but Mr. Wieck's injuries from the assault already received, was plainly badly hurt. . . He was removed to his home but last night was brought to St. Francis hospital where he lay unconscious almost to the end. Death resulted about two o'clock this morning. . . Franz Wieck was born in Schleswig Holstein, Germany, November 29, 1865 (sic), and was thus 49 years of age. He came to this country in 1891 and three years later located on the farm he has occupied since. In connection with farming Mr. Wieck bought cattle and shipped occasionally. In this way he became well known and by all he is spoken of in the highest esteem. Mr. Wieck leaves a wife and nine children to mourn his sudden loss, a brother Peter Wieck, who resides northeast of Worms and a brother and two sisters in the Fatherland. He was a member of Plattduesche Vereen, which order no doubt have charge of the funeral, the time of which well be announced later. =============== Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent Wednesday, 21 April 1915, page 8 The funeral of Franz Wieck, who died yesterday morning as a result of injuries received when he was attacked by a bull, will take place Friday morning at ten o'clock form the residence seven miles northwest of this city and two miles northwest of the McDonald ranch.
