Grand Island Daily Independent Friday 10 Dec 1937 August Thesenvitz Dies Early Today August Thesenvitz, 84, a resident of Hall county since 1893, passed away about 3:30 a.m., Friday, at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Steinbeck, six miles west of the city, following only a few days illness. He had made his home with the Steinbecks the past two years. Mr. Thesenvitz was born March 3, 1853, at Gustow, Germany. In 1879 he was united in marriage to Christiana Johanna Lorenz, and in 1893 they emigrated to America, coming directly to Hall county and taking a farm near Alda. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary November 2, 1929. Mr. Thesenvitz was successful in his farming operations and in 1913 he and his wife retired and moved to this city, where they resided until two years ago. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Steinbeck; five sons, Albert, Alda, August, Cooper S.D., Ernest, Grand Island, Charles, Wood River, and Otto, Omaha; eighteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death, November 28 1937, as did also two sons, William and Fred, and a daughter who died in infancy. Funeral services will be held at Geddes Funeral home at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, with Rev. Rudolph Moehring officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island cemetery.
