Butler County Press (David City, Nebr., March 20, 1941, p. 1, col. 5 AGED LADY PASSED ON WAS LONG-TIME RESIDENT Funeral Services Held Friday fro Mrs. Antonia Votava Abie, March 17 - Mrs. Antonia Votava, 87 years, 9 months and 19 days of age, passed away at her home, 3½ miles southeast of Edholm, Wednesday morning, March 12, following two weeks illness. The remains lay in state at the home from Thursday until Friday morning. Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Friday morning in Sts. Peter's and Paul's Catholic church in Abie, with Rev. Alcuin Kasny officiating, assisted by Rev. Kuska. The pallbearers were Emil Cihacek, Albin Cihacek, Joseph Kment, Jerry Viglicky, Joseph Viglicky and Leonard Viglicky, grandsons of the deceased. Burial was in the Abie Catholic cemetery. All of Mrs. Votava's children were present at the funeral. Distant relatives in attendance were Mrs. Anton Dusatko of Clarkson, Joseph F. Proshocil, A. Horacek and Allen Dusatko of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. John Dworak, of Touhy, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ratkovec and Mrs. Joseph Bures of Valparaiso, Emil Cihacek of North Bend, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Sobota, Jr., and Mrs. Emil Sobota, Sr., of Heun and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kuzel of Rogers. Antonia Kalenda was born May 21, 1853, in Znojmes, Hrotovice, Moravia, where she grew to young womanhood and was married to Joseph Votava in 1876. Mr. and Mrs. Votava came to America immediately after their marriage and established their home in Butler county, on the farm which was their home for the remainder of their lives. Mr. Votava died September 17, 1935, and a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Viglicky, died December 27, 1939. Mrs. Votava is survived by two sons, Frank L. at home and United States District Attorney Joseph T. Votava of Omaha, four daughters, Mrs. Julius Kuzel and Mrs. John Vitek of Colfax county, Mrs. Anton Viglicky of near Edholm and Mrs. John Cihacek of Morse Bluffs, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, also one brother, Charles Kalenda, of Winner, S. Dakota. Mrs. Votava was a member of Sts. Peter's and Paul's Catholic church of Abie, the Altar society and the Catholic Workman lodge. She was a highly respected neighbor and had many warm friends in the community where she resided for so many years.
