Bio

Born June 19th, 1913, Marcel grew up in east Texas. He had three brothers, Clive, Lovell, and Harvey. One time, his family lived in a wooden-floored army tent. He hunted rabbits with .22 shorts for the bounty... and food. He plowed fields with a mule. He worked on various public works sites as a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He met and married a preacher's daughter, Lois Pauline Staples. They moved to Dallas, where he got a job building airplanes at North American. Then, he landed a typewriter repairman job with Remington Rand. Marcel and Polly raised Judith Marlene Gardner and Vickie Lane Gardner. Now, Vickie is a boy. (In fact, it's me. Hey, I didn't get to pick it!) In retirement, Vernon built and lived in a "farmhouse" on 8 acres in Terrell. It was the Golden Age of the Gardner family... with all offspring and friends participating in good times. He could fix any small machine. He loved woodworking, and hearts were his signature shape. He was as honest as the day is long. He loved his family. Marcel passed away at home in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas on March 16, 2005.
