Sawyer County Gazette Oct. 29, 2014 "Yesteryears" Oct. 18, 1989 Leo Tworek, age 84, of Winter, died Monday, Oct. 16, 1989, at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield. Born Jan. 3, 1905 in Duncan, Nebraska, the son of John and Mary (Paprocki) Tworek. He spent his early childhood in Duncan. Leo was married April 17, 1929, to Mary Krsiba, in Duncan, Nebraska. He lived in Duncan until he moved to Winter in 1937. His wife, Mary, died in 1963. Leo was married to Florence Best on May 8, 1965, at Tony, Wisconsin. Leo farmed in the Winter area and was a beekeeper for over 40 years. He had also been a logger and worked at the Petit sawmill. For many years, he was St. Peter's Cemetery caretaker. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and a former trustee of the church. He was a member of the Rice Lake Moose Lodge #402. He is survived by his wife, Florence; two sons, Bernie of Hayward and Edwin of Placerville, CA; two daughters, Dorothy Carpenter of Carmichael, CA, and Connie Verlen of Kenosha, WI; two step-sons, Ron Petit of Des Moines, Iowa, and Frank Petit of Rice Lake; 12 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alvin of Columbus, Nebraska; Flavian of Norfolk, Virginia, and Steve of Richfield, WA; five sisters, Theresa Schwank and Angie Slovinski, both of Columbus, Nebraska; Louis Placzek of Fremont, Nebraska; Emily Bowls of Smith River, CA; several nieces and nephews.
