Melvin Swanner Aug 30, 1922 - Oct 25, 2012 Melvin B. Swanner, 90, of Sherman, TX, died October 25, 2012 in Gainesville, TX after a long bout with cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel in Sherman, TX, Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Tommy Eubanks officiating. Burial will be in Cedarlawn Memorial Park, Sherman, TX. Serving as casket bearers will be Nolan Glahn, Robert Mathus, Duane Hall, Bryan Swanner, Mike Bell and Bill Grannis. Melvin was born August 30, 1922 in Limestone County, Alabama to John Andrew and Mattie Luveuis Swanner. His family moved many times as he was growing up, and they finally settled in Grayson County in 1938. He married Reba Irene Reaves of Anna, in 1942. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II and was stationed in the Pacific Theater. A self-made man, Melvin loved to sell, whether it was used cars from the lot he owned in Sherman to the custom homes and commercial buildings he built all over Grayson County. He also was an inveterate problem solver and inventor. In 1992 and 1996, he was awarded Patents from the U.S. Government for his unique trailer designs, known as 'Easy Load Trailers'. Melvin loved to travel with family; his last trip was just this September with daughter, Sandra Robbins, to Washington D.C. as a participant in the WWII Honor Flight Program. Melvin was a much loved Father, Brother, Grandfather, Uncle, and Friend who will be sorrowfully missed by his twin brother Selvin Swanner and wife Marge of Sherman, TX; daughter Judy and husband Ken Shank of Gainesville, TX; daughter Sandra Robbins of Frisco, TX; daughter Brenda and husband Tommy Eubanks of Anna, TX; grandchildren Tammy Grannis of Watauga, Duane Hall of Prosper, and Robert Mathus of Denison; great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Reba, son Rex, grandson Scott, brothers, sisters, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. An online register may be signed at waldofuneralhome.com.
