Lexington Herald-Leader, Lexington, Kentucky, December 28, 1999: Lucile Pickett Guthrie, former superintendent of Green County schools, died Sunday at Bowling Green Regional Medical Center, following heart surgery. She was 86. Mrs. Guthrie was superintendent from 1945 until 1979. During her tenure, the Greensburg and Green County schools merged and schools were integrated. She taught in a one-room school in the county for several years early in her career. She was a graduate of Lindsey Wilson College and Western Kentucky University. A member of Greensburg United Methodist Church, she had taught Sunday school for many years and was active in United Methodist Women at the church. Mrs. Guthrie, an Adair County native, was the widow of Joe Harlan Guthrie. Survivors include a son, Joe Pickett Guthrie of Bowling Green; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greensburg United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Warren F. Toler Funeral Home in Greensburg. Contributions are suggested to Lucile Pickett Guthrie Scholarship Fund in the College Heights Foundation at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green or Greensburg United Methodist Church.
