Belle Plaine News Belle Plaine, Kansas Thursday, October 19, 1922 page 1 Obituary Jesse Parrett. Jesse Parrett was born in Wabash county, Indiana, April 28, 1858. Early in life he moved to Illinois where he resided until the year 1887 when he came to Kansas, locating near Belle Plaine, in and near which he continued to reside until ill health overtook him. On September 19, '22 he entered the Wesley Hospital in Wichita for a surgical operation which was successfully performed on Sept. 21, '22. For several days he seemed better and was hopeful but the malady refused to yield even to the surgeon's knife and after much suffering for many days he yielded to his fate at 2:50 a.m., October 16, '22, aged 64 years, 5 months and 18 days. He leaves to revere his memory one brother, Fred Parrett of Mulvane, and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth and Sarah Mason, of Belle Plaine, besides many more distant relatives. Jess was a familiar figure and will be missed from among us. The remains were brought to the home of his sister, Mrs. Thomas Mason, this city on Tuesday morning where the funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. conducted by an intimate friend, J.W. Wade, of Wilmore, Kansas, assisted by Rev. Humphrey of the Presbyterian church, with interment in the Belle Plaine cemetery. The Belle Plaine Lodge No. 173, A.F. & A.M. had charge at the cemetery. Mr. Parrett was also a member of the Eastern Star Lodge, No. 125. Peace to his memory, and to those bereft our sympathy. (transcribed by Judy Mayfield)
