Josepha Protiva was born 10 Mar 1847 in House #41, Vlažinka Hamlet, Ostojkovice (German: Wostejkowitz) Village, Jemnice Parish, Třebíč District, Dačice Region, Moravia, Austrian Empire. Her parents were Wenzel Protiva and Katharina Maria Hladky. She was baptized in the Chapel of St. Florian in Ostojkovice (German: Wostejkowitz) Village, Roman Catholic Parish of St. Stanislaus in Jemnice, Třebíč District, Dačice Region, Moravia, Austrian Empire. (2016 location: Vlažinka Hamlet, Ostojkovice Village, Municipal Authority Budíškovice, okres Jindřichův Hradec, Jihočeský kraj, Czech Republic. Josepha Protiva and Martin F Veverka were married on 09 Aug 1870 in the Chapel of St. Florian in Ostojkovice (German: Wostejkowitz) Village, Roman Catholic Parish of St. Stanislaus. (2016 location: Ostojkovice Village, Municipal Authority Budíškovice, okres Jindřichův Hradec, Jihočeský kraj, Czech Republic.) This union was blessed with six children: Petronilla on 11 May 1871 and Jozef on 22 Feb 1874, both born in Vlažinka Hamlet in Moravia; Ludvik on 24 Aug 1877; Otillia on 11 Dec 1879; Maria in 1884; and Antonia on 22 May 1888, the last four on the family farm in Skull Creek Township, Butler County, Nebraska, USA, about 4-1/2 miles northeast of Brainard Village. Martin and Josepha arrived in the Port of Baltimore, Maryland, USA, on 09 Apr 1875 on the S.S. Braunschweig with their two children, Petronilla and Jozef. The wife of Martin Veverka died at her home four and one-half miles east of Brainard [Skull Creek Township] Monday morning and was buried in the Catholic cemetery Wednesday forenoon. Funeral services were held at Holy Trinity church in Brainard conducted by Rev. Father Klein.
