Born in the village of Popovice, town of Ivancice, count of Brno, Moravia, Austrian Empire (now in the Czech Republic). Birth date calculated from age at death. "Anton Soukup died at his home in Brainard, Monday, August 16, at the age of 70 years, 6 months and 16 days, after a brief illness. He was born in Moravia, Europe in 1845. In 1870 he was united to Miss Mary Shumbera. To this union were born eight children, two of whom are dead. Mr. and Mrs. Soukup came to America in 1884, locating in Omaha, where they resided for a year and then came to Butler county purchasing a farm to the southeast part next [to] the Saunders county line, where they resided until 1902, when Mr. and Mrs. Soukup moved to Brainard. Funeral services were held at Holy Trinity Catholic church Wednesday, at 10 o'clock A. M. conducted by Msgr. Klein. Deceased leaves to mourn his death a wife and six children, as follows: Mrs. John Slaviek of Omaha, Mrs. Thos Hofpar and Mrs. Frank Kavka of Brainard, Mrs. Frank Mares of near Dwight, and Frank J. and Anton who live on farms, the former near Brainard and the latter near Loma.
