"Mrs. Mary Soukup passed away Sunday evening at ten-thirty at the home of her son-in-law, Frank Kavka in Omaha where she had been staying for the past five months. She was in her 78th year and death was due to old age, she having been very feeble for the past year. Mary Sumbera was born in Moravia on March 11, 1850 and grew to womanhood there. She was united in marriage to Anton Soukup and they became the parents of eight children three sons and five daughters, one son and daughter of whom died in childhood. In 1884 the family immigrated to America residing for a few years in Omaha, then settled on a farm in the east part of Butler County where they lived for about twelve years, and then moved into Brainard. Mr. Soukup died in August 1915. The deceased is survived by her six children: Mrs. John Slavik and Mrs. Frank Kavka of Omaha, Anton Soukup of Seward, Mrs. Frank Mares of Dwight and Mrs. Thos. Hofbauer and Frank Soukup of Brainard; also by two sisters Mrs. Antonia Sisel of Brainard and Mrs. Joseph Holcapek of Loma; twenty-five grand-children and nineteen great grand-children. Funeral services were held at Holy Trinity Church on Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock conducted by Rt. Rev. Msgr. Klein. The members of the Ruzensky Spolek, of society deceased had been a member attended in a body. Burial was in the Brainard Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were six grandsons: Joseph J. and Edward Soukup, John Slavik, Joe Kavka, Thos. Hofbauer, Jr. and Joseph L. Soukup." – Brainard Clipper (Brainard, Nebr.), October 6, 1927, p. 1, col. 5
