Gillis E. Perry, 73, longtime resident of Butler county, died Thursday, Jan. 13, at the Rest Manor in Osceola. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Rising City Methodist church, with Rev. E. W. Price and Rev. George S. Goodwin officiating. Music was furnished by Morris Stephens , vocalist, and Mrs. Gerald Wallace , organist. Pallbearers were Arthur Struebing , Werner Hinze , Frank Kuhl , Otto Kuhl , Reinhold Hinze , and Chris Struebing . Burial was in Circle Mound cemetery. A son of J. C. and Emma Perry, Gillis Ezra Perry was born in Oct. 7, 1881, at Lena, Ill. When a small child of four years, he moved with his parents to a farm in Butler county where he lived until ill health compelled him to cease farming in 1941. He moved to Rising City upon his retirement. On March 8, 1904, Mr. Perry was united in marriage to Tennessee Rima at David City. To this union four children were born: Harold of Shelby, Clyde of Yakima, Wash., Orville of Rawlins, Wyo., and Davise Shunk of Rising City. In addition to his wife, three sons, and one daughter, he is survived by 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one brother, Edgar, and a sister, Chloe Lyons, both of Rising City.
