Robert (Bob) Erwin Volf, age 91, passed away peacefully in his home in Longmont, CO, on Jan. 11, 2018. Robert was born on June 7, 1926 to Albert and Elizabeth (Vodenhal) and grew up on a farm near Ord, NE, where he went to school and helped his father until serving his country in the Army. He served in Europe until his discharge in 1946. He married Claire McCarthy on July 12, 1948 in Greeley, NE and they moved to Wood River, NE in 1956, where they opened the local tavern, Bob’s Place. He proudly served several years as the Commander of the American Legion post. Bob also worked for the Hall County Roads Department until his retirement in 1985. Bob loved his wife, his children, God, and country life. They retired at Harry Strunk Reservoir out of Cambridge, NE after his retirement in 1985, and remained there until Claire passed away in 2011. He then moved to Colorado to be near the majority of his children in the Denver area. He was preceded in death by his wife Claire, daughter Mary, and brother Pete. His survivors include children Patty (Mike) Capps, Barb (Dave) Schlund, Sue (Tim) Grimsby, Mike (Penny) Volf, Larry (Sandra) Volf, Christine (Chris) Christensen, Jim (Kari) Volf, John (Karla) Volf; 28 Grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; and his brother Maylon Volf. His legacy will continue in the 82 people that made up his immediate family. Graveside services will be held at the Ord City Cemetery in Ord, NE on Sat., Jan. 20 at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow at the Trotter Event Center in Ord. All are welcome. (From the Ord Quiz.)
