Bio
The Rev. Wilfred J. Spenner, 55, of Omaha, formerly of Beemer, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at his home. He was born Jan. 26, 1947, on the Spenner family farm 1 1/2 miles north of Beemer. He attended Cuming County Rural School District 19 and continued at Guardian Angels Catholic School in West Point until the eighth grade. He attended Mount Michael High School in Elkhorn. He received his bachelor's degree at Conception Seminary College in Conception, Mo. He attended seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, St. Paul, Minn., and Denver. He was ordained at St. Cecelia Cathedral on May 26, 1973. He served appointments as associate pastor at St. Stanislaus in Omaha, Sacred Heart in Norfolk, St. Pius X in Omaha, St. Mary in Omaha, Holy Family in Lindsay, St. Michael in Albion and St. Joan of Arc in Omaha. He was later assigned as pastor of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Plainview, St. Ignatius at Brunswick, St. Michael's in Albion, St. Patrick in Jackson and senior associate at St. Thomas Moore in Omaha. In October 2001, he had surgery and never fully recovered. Survivors include: his mother, Eleanor Spenner of Beemer; three brothers, the Rev. Jerome Spenner of Omaha, Eugene (and wife, Marilyn) Spenner of Barras, British Columbia, and Dan (and wife, Karen) Spenner of Beemer; and a sister, Mary Beth (Mrs. Jan) Schuetze of West Point. The memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer with the Revs. Mark Merkel and Jerome Spenner officiating. Visitation will be 6-7:30 p.m. today at the church with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Burial of the cremains will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Beemer. Kuzelka-Minnick Funeral Home in Beemer is in charge of arrangements.
