Thanks to contributor #48796369 Seraphia F. "Sarah" Safarik, 93, of Aurora, formerly of Elba, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elba. The Rev. Ray Kosmicki and the Rev. Craig Doty will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, near St. Paul. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul, with a vigil service at 7. Mrs. Safarik was born on Sept. 17, 1911, at Farwell to Louie and Catherine (Tyma) Pilakowski. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Safarik, on Nov. 15, 1999. Survivors of the immediate family include two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Carol Safarik or Orange, Calif., and John Jr. and Alice Safarik of Arvada, Colo.; five daughters and sons-in-law, Margie and Allen Dunn of Kansas City, Mo., Phyllis and LaVern Mroczek of Loup City, Arlene and Tom Newlun of Aurora, Carol and Franz Trumler of Boelus, and Jeanette and Paul Roberts of Kansas City, Mo. She also leaves to cherish her memory 32 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Sarah grew up in the Ashton area and attended the St. Francis Parochial School. She was united in marriage to John M. Safarik on Feb. 1, 1932, at Ashton. The couple farmed in the Dannevirke, Cotesfield and Elba areas. In 1952, they moved into Elba. Sarah moved to Aurora in September 1999. In June 2004, she moved to Memorial Community Care in Aurora. Sarah loved baking, gardening, playing bingo, casino trips and quilting, having made quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. She had a great sense of humor and was always very optimistic about life and cherished her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora and was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Council of Catholic Women in Elba. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandson, Peyton Newlun; nine brothers, Steve, John, Louie, Joe, Tony, Vince, and Alfred Pilakowski, as well as, two infant brothers; and three sisters, Anna Mitera, Victoria Justus, and Agnes Pilakowski.
