Bio

Williamson Co. Pioneer Citizen Passes Sunday The many friends of Mrs. Dora Williams in Georgetown and Williamson County were grieved over the passing of this saintly Christian mother, but it was not a surprise to most of her closest friends, as she had been a sufferer for some time and had been in declining health for more than a year. She passed away at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Logan in North Georgetown in the presence of a number of friends and her immediate relatives, Mrs. Ray Logan being the only daughter who survives in the family. The funeral was conducted by her pastor, Rev. E. B. Bennett, pastor of the Berrys Creek Methodist Church, Rev. P. C. Williams, pastor of the First Baptist Church and Rev. G. R. Wright at the Friedrich Funeral Chapel Monday afternoon and interment was in the Berrys Creek cemetery by the side of her late husband, Mr. King Williams, who preceded her many years ago. The ministers who officiated at the funeral justly paid a great tribute to this saintly mother on her home going which we know can be voiced by all of her friends who knew her and had seen the true virtuous life she had lived while among us. The following is a sketch of her life: Medora Mildred Thwing was born April 1, 1870, Florence Co., South Carolina, and passed away at 12:00 o'clock, June 4, 1939. She moved from South Carolina with her family in fall of 1874 to Georgetown, Williamson County, Texas. She returned to South Carolina with her family in 1881 and spent four years. In 1885 the Thwing family returned to Texas and settled five miles north of Georgetown. She had attended school in South Carolina and upon returning to Texas had the privilege of going to school taught by her father. In 1888 she married King Williams and lived on Berry's Creek. To this union was born three girls, Nettie and Bettie and Fannie. In 1913 she lost two daughters, Nettie [Mankins] and Betty [Grumbles] and two grandchildren [Roscoe and Mildred Grumbles] in the Berry's Creek flood. Her husband, King Williams, preceded her in death. Mrs. Dora Williams led a most active life and was always interested in her community, family, her friends and her church. When fifteen years of age she had joined the Methodist Church while in South Carolina and later transferred her membership to Berry's Creek Methodist Church where she kept her membership until the time of her death. She acted as Sunday School Superintendent, teacher and officer and for many years was a leading spirit in this church. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Fannie [Ray] Logan of Georgetown, and three grandchildren, J. D., R. E., and Mettie Mildred Logan, four brothers, J. W. Thwing of Berry's Creek, G. W. Thwing of Georgetown, J. M. Thwing of Coleman, Texas, Frank A. Thwing of Quanah, Texas, and one sister, Mrs. Shelley Williams of Huntsville, Texas.
