Bio
Ladislav "Lad" J. Zatopek, 93, of Temple, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2012, at a local care facility. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 15, 2012, at St. Luke Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in West, Tx, under the direction of Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Temple. A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, September 14, 2012 with a rosary at 7 p.m., at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Temple. Lad was born in Cyclone, Texas, to the late Frank and Mary Janovsky Zatopek. On December 27, 1958, Ladislav married Mary Ann Gerik. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Cyclone, and when he moved to Temple, he became a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and then St. Luke Catholic Church of Temple. Lad was also a 3rd and 4th degree member of Knights of Columbus and a member of SPJST Lodge 87. He worked for Blackland Research for 20 years. He is preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Zatopek; and brothers, William, Ed, Frank, and Henry Zatopek. Lad is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Ann, of Temple; son, David Zatopek and wife, Cathy, of Dallas; brother, Adolph Zatopek, of West; granddaughter, Clara Zatopek, of Dallas; and a host of dear friends.
