Bio

Edward F. Zatopek, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and longtime San Antonio resident, passed away on August 31, 2004 at the age of 90. He was born September 20, 1913 in Cyclone, TX to the late Frank John and Mary Janovsky Zatopek and was raised in the Temple area where he graduated from Temple High School. Mr. Zatopek retired from civil service after 41 years of dedicated service, serving at various Air Force Bases including Randolph, Greenville, Bryan and Kelly. Mr. Zatopek along with his late wife, Evelyn, were active members of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. He was a 3rd Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4140; was a member of the Holy Name Society; was a member of KJT Society; and served as a Boy Scout Leader in Bryan, TX. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Evelyn Baca Zatopek in 1995; parents and two brothers, Frank Zatopek and Henry Zatopek. Mr. Zatopek is survived by two daughters, Mary Louise Dugosh of Floresville, Joan Claybrook and husband Ross of San Mateo, CA; three sons, Edward J. Zatopek and wife Lane of Boerne, Larry Zatopek and wife Susan of Austin, Dan Zatopek of San Antonio; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lad Zatopek and wife Mary Ann of Temple, Adolph Zatopek and wife Agnes of West; sister-in-law, Betty Baca of La Grange; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends. SERVICES Visitation for Mr. Zatopek will be held on Thursday (Today), September 2, 2004 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. The Vigil/Rosary will be held on Thursday (Today), September 2, 2004 at 7:00 P.M. at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 3, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Ted, Mark, Joe, Bill, Todd and Nathan Zatopek, James Dugosh and Matthew Claybrook.
