Lucy Louis, 99, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Monday, September 24, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Columbus. The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 28, 2012, at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Patrick Sparling officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 PM to 7 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and will continue on Friday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at church. Lucy was born in the Grand Prairie area of Platte County on June 30, 1913, to Fred W. Meinke and Mathilda A. (Hellbusch) Meinke. She graduated from Davenport High School and Hastings State Teachers College. Lucy taught school for five years in Davenport, Nebraska, before she moved to the Columbus area where she worked for J C Penney Co. in both Columbus and Seward. On June 17, 1940, she was united in marriage to Jacob P. Louis in Ogallala, Nebraska. They made their home on the Louis farm until retiring in 1978 when they built a new home near the home place. She remained there until moving into Columbus in 2002. Lucy was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, a former church choir member, member of Evening Guild, County Cousins Club, and various other clubs. She enjoyed working with flowers, playing cards, traveling, reading, keeping up on current events, writing, and spending time with friends and relatives. Lucy is survived by Daughter: Nancy (Warren) Munch of Lincoln, CA Daughter: Susan (Rick) Pohle of Reno, NV Son: Paul (Marcia) Louis of Columbus, NE Son: Dan (Roberta) Louis of Thornton, CO 10 grandchildren 12 great grandchildren Brother-in-law: Robert Bilstein of Springfield, IL She is preceded in death by Parents: Fred and Mathilda Meinke Husband: Jacob Louis Daughter: Jeanette Louis-Sannes Sister: Ruth Bilstein Brothers: Elmer and Milton Meinke
