Married (1) Jacob Zeleny. Married (2) Frank Semrad. Maiden name from her children Barbara, Frank, Marie, and Catherine's marriage records. Frank's obituary states it was Ohanka . Her son Josef and Vaclav's marriage records list it as Andreck and Anton's as Kutilek . The family emigrated to the United States on the SS Frisia , which left Hamburg, Germany on October 12, 1881 and arrived in New York City on October 31. The ship manifest includes: Franz Semrad (37, farmer), Cathr (43, wife), Karl (6, child), Antonie (2, child), Cathr. (11 months, infant), and the Zeleny children (listed as Franz Semrad's "foster children"), Josef (22), Vaclav (20), Barber (16), Franz (11), Jacob (8), and Marie (6). According to the ship manifest they were from Fridnova, Austria. Frank Semrad died before 1885 when the census lists Katherina as a widow, with the surname Zeleny which her youngest sons Karl and Anton Semrad also adopted as adults. Frank may be the F. Semrad , who died May 1882 and is buried in Nimburg Cemetery. 1885 census (Skull Creek Precinct, Butler County, Nebr.): Katharine Zelany (47, Bohemia, widow, keeps house), Wenceslaus (son, 24, Bohemia, works at home), Frank (son, 18, Bohemia), Jacob (son, 15, Bohemia), Mary (daughter, 13, Bohemia), Charley (son, 10, Bohemia), Anthony (son, 8, Bohemia), Katharine (daughter, 6, Bohemia), Jaroslav (son, 2, Nebr.). 1900 (Skull Creek Township, Butler County, Nebr.): Katy Zeleny (Dec 1839, Bohemia, widow, market gardner, mother of 12 children, 10 living, immigrated 1881). 1910 (Skull Creek Township, Butler County, Nebr.): Katherine Zeleny (72, Austria-Bohemia, widow, own income, mother of 12 children, 10 living, immigrated 1882), living with her son Jacob and his family. 1920 census (Bruno, Butler County, Nebr.): Katie Zeleny (85, Bohemia, widow). In addition to the children linked below, she was the mother of: (1) John Zeleny - living in Bohemia/Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) in 1915 (Mary Kudlacek obit) and 1933 (Frank Zeleny obit). He was the father of Rose (Zeleny) Pokorney . (2) Jaroslav Semrad/Zeleny- born around 1883, died between 1885-1900. (3) another child - died before 1900. She was 88 years old, and owing to the feebleness of advanced age had been bedfast for several months past. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon at three o'clock at the Catholic Church, Rev. Father Bauer conducting the services. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery. Among those in attendance at the funeral from a distance were Joseph Zeleny and family of Omaha; James Zeleny and family of Seward; Joseph Kudlacek and family of Swanton; Anton Pokorny and family of Staplehurst; Mrs. Frank Jungman of Atkinson and Frank Lanc and family of Cedar Bluffs. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved.
