Daughter of Mike and Mary (Hladek) Jonas/Wanash. The passenger list for the SS Ohio, which arrived in Baltimore, Maryland from Bremen, Germany on June 23, 1872 includes the following (all born Austria): Marianne Jonas (age 53), Caroline (20), Josepha (14), Francisca (7), Catharina (6), and Johann Palek (30), Marie (25), Franz (11 months), and Catharina (26). '''''''''''''' Butler County Press (David City, Nebr.), February 26, 1931, p. 1, col. 6 WAS EARLY-DAY SETTER. Mrs. Marie Palik Passed Away in Her 84th Year. Mrs. Marie Palik, widow of John Palik, highly esteemed resident of Butler county 59 years, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the home of her niece, Mrs. Emma Novotny, in Schuyler, where she was visiting. She had been ill for five weeks. She was nearly 84 years of age. Funeral rites were held Thursday morning, at the Catholic church at Appleton, Rev. Father Skopal celebrating the Requiem Mass. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery at Bruno, by the side of the grave of her husband who died in 1921. Rev. J. C. Hotovy officiated at the interment. Mrs. Palik was born at Valci, Moravia, on May 15, 1847. The early part of her life was spent in her native land. She was united in marriage to John Palik in Moravia in 1868. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Palik. Three died in infancy. The surviving children are Frank Palik, Mrs. Fannie Pokorney, Rudolph Palik and C. E. Palik, all living near David City, and Mrs. Emma Konopik of Schuyler. Mr. and Mrs. Palik came to America in 1872, coming direct to Nebraska and David City, and settled on a farm near Abie. They resided there until 1904, when they moved to a farm near Bruno. They retired from active farm life in 1910 and moved to Bruno to make their home. Since the death of her husband, in 1912, Mrs. Palik had been making her home with her children and visiting other relatives. Besides her five children, Mrs. Palik is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Anton Kanka of Plattsmouth and Mrs. Peter Skarda of Schuyler. ____ Card of Thanks - We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who so kindly assisted during the illness and at time of the death of our dear mother, also for the floral offerings and spiritual boquets.
