Born in Litovany #42, town of Hrotovice, Austrian Empire (now in the Czech Republic). According to Jan Čaboun (#49432498) his surname was also spelled Czapaun. The passenger list for SS Baltimore , which arrived in Baltimore, Maryland from Bremen, Germany on May 25, 1878 includes Johann Czapouen (age 32, farmer), Franziska (32), Franziska (7 months), Johann Pawlik (29, farmer), Theresia (29), Maria (4), Johann Ryschan (40, farmer), Kathar. (36), Josef (3), and Vinzenz (3 months), all from Austria, destination Nebraska. The deceased had been ailing for some time, and Wednesday night sent his wife to town to get some medicine and when she returned home, found him dead. Deceased is survived by a wife, son, and two daughters, Mrs. James Koza and Mrs. Henry Sabata. The remains were buried Wednesday in the Catholic cemetery. NOTE: See the obituary for complete details.
