Bio

Obituary of John Volf John Volf died very unexpectedly at his home in Ord February 25, 1975. He was 79. Mr. Volf was born August 16, 1895 in a sod house in Valley County near Comstock, the son of Frank and Anna Novak Volf. His early life was spent on a farm north of Arcadia and he attended rural school near the family farm. On October 5, 1917 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, later spending time in Europe during World War I. It was during a campaign at AisneMarne that John was wounded by gas, July 27, 1918. After the war, he returned to the family farm to begin farming. He was united in marriage to Matilda Moravecek September 25, 1923 at the Geranium Catholic Church. They made their home on the farm until November of 1960 when John retired and they moved to Ord. He was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church of Ord, the ZCBJ Lodge #112, as well as the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Ord and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Matilda of Ord; one son, Marvin of Omaha; one daughter, Mrs. Leona (George) Radil of Ord; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also three sisters, Mrs. Agnes Mellinger of Monrovia, CA, Mrs. Emma Gutheil of Davarte, CA and Mrs. Anna Davis also of California. He was preceded in death by one son, his parents, seven brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held February 28 at 10:30 am at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. Interment was in Ord Catholic Cemetery with Military rites by the Ord American Legion and the VFW. The Ord Quiz - Thur, Mar 6 1975, Pg 8, Col 1
