She was born in Pacolet, SC to Willie Victor and Willie Mae Moreland Smith. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two daughters, Juanita Davidson and Georgia Mae Strickland , five brothers and one sister. In the 50's Margaret sang on the Arthur Smith show with her twin sister Margie Pursley. Margaret was very talented. She wrote songs and poems including "Annie Get Your Gun" and "The Day My Mother Died". Some of her songs were published by Slim Dallas of Nashville, Tn. In the early years she worked in textiles. She worked at the old Senior Citizen Center where she drove for Meals on Wheels and started the senior citizens band known as the Swinging Mountaineers. They performed in various places. They were the main attraction at the Mountaineer Days. She did a lot for the senior citizens. She was a foster grandparent for the Foster Grandparent program. She was a member of Yorkwood Church of God in Gastonia. She was a wonderful, precious mother. Margaret was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
