According to her marriage record she was the daughter of Jim Paval while her obituary says she was the daughter of Vaclav (James) and Katherine Pavel. Married Josef Barcal on April 14, 1885 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Abie, Nebr. Sister of Anna (Pavel) Nemec (whose marriage record states she was the daughter of Joseph and Fanciska (Jura) Pavel), Joseph Pavel (whose marriage record states he was the son of James and Francis (Novotny) Pavel), Frantiska (Pavel) Slegl (whose marriage record states she was the daughter of Vaclav and Frantiska (Novotny) Pavel), and Antonie (Pavel) Schovanec . MARY BARCAL PASSED AWAY AUG. 13 Funeral services were held on Monday, Aug. 17, for Mrs. Mary Barcal, 88, of Linwood, who died at her home Aug. 13 after a brief illness, although she had been in failing health for the past year. Rev. Boniface Tomek officiated at the requiem mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic church at Linwood. Music was by the church choir, with Mrs. Joseph Vojtech of Morse Bluff at the organ. Short prayer services were held at the Svoboda Funeral Home. Pallbearers were: Louis Barcal, John Barcal, Ben Kracman, Philip Nesladek, Walter Bohaty and Richard Barcal. Burial was in Sts. Peter and Paul cemetery at Abie. Mrs. Barcal, daughter of Vaclav (James) and Katherine Pavel, was born Dec. 25, 1864, in Czechoslovakia and came to this country as a young girl. After her marriage to Joseph Barcal, they settled on a farm in the Nimburg community and had lived in that neighborhood until seven years ago, when she and her son Emil moved to Linwood. She was a member of the J.C.D. lodge and of St. Mary's Catholic church in Linwood. Four sons and two daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Barcal. She is survived by three sons, Joseph and Emil of Linwood and James of Lincoln; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. James Slegl of Bruno; and one brother, Joseph Pavel of Chambers. Preceding her in death were her husband who died 40 years ago; her daughters, Mary, Mrs. James Bohaty, and Antonia, Mrs. Frank Swanda; and her son, Frank of Linwood who died suddenly on Aug. 15, two days after the death of his mother. She also was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Anton Nemec of Dwight, Mrs. Tony Schovanec of Oklahoma and Katherine and James of Czechoslovakia.
