Bio
Peter James Sowers was born April 19, 1834, in Maryland, the son of Frederick and Mary A. Brewer Sowers. He married in Maryland on February 4, 1858, Mary Jane Knepper, daughter of William and Henrieet R. Hower Knepper. They were the parents of the following children: Charles Frederick, William Knepper, Henrietta, Eva Dallas, Mary A., Joseph G., Clyde Hower, and Robert Bender Sowers. Peter passed away on July 4, 1920, in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland, having lived in that county for most of his life. He was buried on the 7th in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Clearspring, Washington County, Maryland. Obituary for Peter James Sowers from the Frederick News of Thursday Morning, July 8, 1920: "Peter J. Sowers of Hagerstown died at his home, on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. of general debility, aged 86 years. Mr. Sowers was a son of Frederick Sowers, who many years ago moved to Clearspring from Liberty, Frederick, County. Surviving are his wife and seven children, and one brother, Samuel Sowers, of Hagerstown. Funeral Wednesday, services in the Lutheran Church at Clearspring. Interment in the grave yard adjoining."
